Southern Crossroads Music…
Southern Crossroads Music is an Americana, Alt. Country, Folk / Accoustic Blues and Country focused music company that owns and controls both master rights and publishing rights. Although mainly concentrating on these genres, Southern Crossroads Music will also sign other singer songwriters or producer/writers that it considers will enhance its roster. That roster currently comprises producers, artistes and songwriters based in the UK and the US. It has presence and/or joint-ventures in London, Nashville, Los Angeles and New York and is represented in Canada, Australia, Germany, France, Scandinavia, Italy and Spain.
The Founders and Owners…
Steve D McMellon and Dream Theatre Music
Steve D McMellon was the CEO of music publisher, S1 Songs Group and joint-MD of its parent First State Media Group (FSMG), which was sold to Chrysalis Music on March 31 2010. His business activities are carried out through the Dream Theatre Music Group (DTMG) and DTMG is a 50% shareholder of Southern Crossroads Music.
S1 was the music publisher for some iconic writers including Sheryl Crow, Creed, Evanescence, Lifehouse, The Hold Steady, Ben Moody, Seether and Finger Eleven as well as representing some classic works by Gram Parsons, John Denver, Emmylou Harris, The Motels, Amy Grant, The Byrds, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Billy Strayhorn amongst others. S1 was particularly active in Nashville with writers such as James Slater (Rascal Flatts, Jamey Johnson, Martina McBride, Kenny Chesney), Brad Crisler (Brooks and Dunn, Kenny Chesney), Brett Beavers (Dirks Bentley, Eric Church, Kellie Pickler), Brett Eldredge (Brett Eldredge and Garry Allan), Rory Feek (Joey and Rory, Easton Corbin) , Tim Johnson (Jimmy Wayne, Kellie Pickler), Pam Rose (Maia Sharp), Don Rollins (Alan Jackson, George Strait and Jimmy Buffett), Matt Lopez (Lady Antebellum), Paul Sikes (Josh Gracin) and Shaye Smith (Martina McBride, Reba McEntire, Trace Adkins, Jamie O’Neal).
Southern Crossroads Music is a music production and music publishing operation. Prior to the FSMG sale to Chrysalis, Steve together with some very forward thinking management at S1 were moving away from what one would call a “traditional music publisher” and was establishing more partnerships and joint-ventures (especially in Nashville and Los Angeles) with music supervisors, producers, writers and artistes. S1 was becoming a much rounder music company owning or controlling master rights as well as publishing rights… and in some cases re-recording some of its repertoire to give it such control. It is that extended music model that will be expanded under the Southern Crossroads Music brand.
